This presentation discusses certain key legal considerations for developing renewable energy projects on First Nation reserve lands in Canada, including: (1) project structuring to facilitate First Nation participation; (2) on-reserve land matters; (3) financing considerations; and (4) community benefits for First Nations.
The ultimate goal of this session is to help various stakeholders facilitate Indigenous participation in renewable energy projects. This session will be particularly relevant to First Nations looking to invest in renewable energy projects, and to developers looking to facilitate Indigenous participation -- whether to meet/exceed their internal ESG targets, to meet mandatory Indigenous participation requirements, or otherwise.
