In this presentation we will discuss a case study for an Indigenous-led Assessment currently being prepared by Lower Nicola Indian Band on the effects of the Highland Valley Copper Mine Life Extension Project: the Tmixw Assessment. The Tmixw Assessment will consider impacts on cultural values, impacts on relationships with the land, and impacts to Indigenous rights and title. Our presentation will address the different points of view considered in the assessment, the differences in the methodologies form traditional assessments, as well as what we can learn from thinking outside the box of the usual impact assessment process.
