The need for understanding the capabilities and availability for the main step up Power Transformer from either a Solar or Wind generation operation is critical from a safety and economics point of view. These transformers are subject to varying loading and ambient conditions, which can impact their operation. Recent work in CIGRE and IEEE Transformers Committees have produced Technical Guides, which provide the background and methodology for asset owners and operation as well as maintenance personnel to determine the technical condition from a holistic point of view providing a scoring benchmarking perspective that identifies units that may need attention. This talk will provide examples of how these guides work in real life case histories.
